Yandoit
Situated halfway between Bendigo and Ballarat, this site has all the challenges of the harsh Central Victorian climate. With hot, dry summers, freezing cold winters, heavy ex-mining soils, and exposure to frost and wind, the plants in this garden had to be extremely robust.
Stylistically, the goal was to settle the original miners cottage into its' Tuscan-like surrounds of rolling hills, vineyards and olive groves.
Tim sought to create a planting to bring the landscape in. Marking the boundary from the inner garden to the surrounding fields, a cloud-pruned Teucrium hedge serves to echo the huge skies. Moving closer to the cottage, an herbaceous border of tall meadow style flowers and grasses serves to create a sense of seclusion for the entertaining area, while echoing the colour palette of the surrounding fields.
Further across the property, a native planting helps to settle a newly added guest house into the landscape, and creates a pleasant accent to a natural pool by Bells Water Gardens.
